Sunil Tomar

Sunil Tomar was a co-founder and VP of Hardware at Cyras Systems, an El Dorado Ventures portfolio company acquired by Ciena in 2001. After the acquisition, Sunil was SVP of Engineering for the Metro Switching Division of Ciena. Sunil has substantial experience managing the design and development of ASICS, FPGAs, boards and hardware subsystems for both telecom and datacom systems for companies that are widely accepted as technology leaders. Sunil led the engineering team to develop the then-world’s largest SONET cross-connect ASIC at Fiberlane Communications. He also led the team that developed ATM/Frame Relay access products at Cisco Systems/Stratacom. At LSI Logic, he was instrumental in developing the ATMizer chipset in addition to developing ASICs for Apple Computer’s Newton PDA. He led the team at Cellnet Data Systems that was designing packet networking spread spectrum wireless products. In addition to co-founding Cyras Systems, he was a founder of TomarIC, a firm that specialized in providing ASICs and hardware sub-systems for communications companies. Sunil received an MSEE from San Jose State University.
