Rogue Wave
|
Year Funded: 1994
When El Dorado Ventures first learned about Rogue Wave Software, the company was already on its way to becoming a leader in the new marketplace for object-oriented programming tools. Rogue Wave was the first company to see the opportunity to commercialize the standard software components for hugely popular programming languages such as C++ and Java.
In 1994, Rogue Wave founder and CEO Tom Keffer decided he needed venture capital financing to take the company to the next level of sales and profits. “El Dorado Ventures was the only VC firm we spoke to,” says Keffer.
EDV General Partner Tom Peterson joined Rogue Wave’s board and helped build the company in numerous ways. Tom provided strategic guidance, helped recruit seasoned managers, and worked to broaden the membership of the Board of Directors. Two years after EDV’s investment, Rogue Wave went public, and in 2003, the company was acquired by Quovadx.
“What I like about working with El Dorado is that the firm is much more than a source of financing,” said Keffer. “El Dorado acts as a trusted adviser, bringing a great deal of experience to bear and always keeping the company’s best interests at heart.”
