Investment Approach A History of Success EDV Fact Sheet

El Dorado Ventures invests in talented, passionate and experienced entrepreneurs developing disruptive technologies and pursuing innovative business models in emerging and high-growth markets, across a broad range of sectors including software, technology-enabled services, communications and emerging technology.

EDV's General Partners are cycle-tested and possess decades of experience in technology and venture capital investment. The firm has a proven track record of partnering with entrepreneurs to start and build successful technology companies.

The firm learns of new investment opportunities from a variety of sources, including its network of technology industry contacts, its proprietary Technology Partner Network, entrepreneurs the firm has previously funded, and other sources. It is not unusual for entrepreneurs to seek out El Dorado Ventures, or to be referred to the firm, because of El Dorado's consistent record of funding and supporting successful technology entrepreneurs.

If EDV believes strongly in the founding team and its vision, the firm may invest before a product is developed or before a complete management team is in place.

While the firm evaluates over a thousand new investment opportunities annually, it is highly selective and only makes an average of six investments per year. When the firm makes a Seed Round investment, it typically ranges between $250,000 and $1 million. Series A financings typically range between $3 million and $5 million.

El Dorado continues to be a key investor in subsequent rounds and reserves capital for follow-on financing. In order to play an ongoing role in the development of its portfolio companies, El Dorado takes a seat on the Board of Directors of most of its portfolio companies.

    Success Story: Appshop

"Shanda Bahles was an invaluable investor and board member, constantly working to build the company by making introductions and providing strategic guidance. A lot of other VCs say they are entrepreneur-focused, but in El Dorado's case, they proved it time and again."
Larry Abramson, Former CEO, Appshop

Funded: 1999

When El Dorado Ventures invests in a company, it has to be prepared to see its investment through to a successful conclusion, even if there are twists and turns in the road. That's one of the lessons of the firm's investment in Appshop, now a part of AT&T.
